- acetic acid
- A colorless, pungent, mobile liquid, usually obtained by the destructive distillation of wood or by the oxidation of alcohol with ferments. Chemical reagent used in Griess (Walker) test for gunpowder residue detection. Acetic acid form nitrous acid in reacting with nitrites in gunpowder residue.
